St. Valentinus (Valentine)
by Texas Artist Anne L. Hines
12"x 24" x 3/4"
Mixed Media on wood panel
St. Valentinus (or Valentine) was a 3rd century Roman priest
who was martyred (beheaded) because he refused to denounce
his Christian faith. The story states that before his execution he passed
a letter to the jailer's daughter. Today he is the patron saint of our
Valentine's Day observance.
